USE AS PRE-POLISH ON SOFTER LAPIDARY MATERIALS AND OR WOODWORKING

  • Rotten Stone (Tripoli) a natural ground limestone material mixed with diatomaceous, amorphous, or crystalline silica.
  • Rotten Stone is an extremely fine abrasive (400 mesh) powder which when mixed with oil can be used to create a polished finish. It is used as a follow-up polishing agent after a PUMICE application. It is normally used in the woodworking industry as an abrasive polish, lapidarist have been using it for generations long before the newer chemically enhanced polishes were created.
  • Mix with water or glycerin oil to a toothpaste consistency, apply to a damp felt wheel and lightly buff the material.
  • In polishing of all lapidary materials each one reacts different, the pressure applied, polish media, heat, the material being polished and other factors all take part in a good high polish.
  • Our experience working with Rotten Stone is of a mixed review, pre pumice powder application is normally enough prior to the oxide polishes, we find that the Pumice, Rotten Stone applications do not stain like the oxide applications do on some softer lapidary materials and after polish cleanup of these natural substances is much easier than oxide polishes.
  • 4 ounce bag (net) Rotten Stone is uniformly ground and is a medium to dark grey.
  • Other industry uses of Rotten Stone are as a fine polishing agent for finishing painted, lacquered or varnished surfaces to a uniform high gloss, non-glare appearance. Other uses include removing tarnish and polishing pewter and other low luster metal surfaces.
  • In polishing of all lapidary materials each one reacts different, the pressure applied, polish media, heat, the material being polished and other factors all take part in a good high polish.
  • 4-ounce bag (net) Grade FF uniformly ground off-white color powder.
  • Always test on a test piece of material.
  • Always keep out of reach of children and Do Not Consume
