4 OUNCE BAG | $7.95
USE AS PRE-POLISH ON SOFTER LAPIDARY MATERIALS AND OR WOODWORKING

  • Pumice, one of the oldest natural materials, a volcanic stone ground into powder and graded uniformly from grades F-FFFF. F grade being the most coarse (60 mesh) and FFFF being the finest (200 mesh). Grades FF-FFF for flat and satin finishes, and FFFF being a high satin finish. We have found that with softer materials like turquoise, opal and like materials flat spots or orange peel on cabochons can be removed with pumice powders.
  • Please beware that pumice is a relatively soft material that an FF 60 mesh pumice powder is not as abrasive as 60 mesh diamond or carbide grits. NOTE* Pumice powder should always be used as a pre-polish as it will scratch a polished surface.
  • Mix with water or glycerin oil to a toothpaste consistency, apply to a damp felt wheel and lightly buff the material. Follow with Rottenstone (Tripoli) also a natural finer (400 mesh) ground limestone material mixed with diatomaceous, amorphous, or crystalline silica, to obtain a semi-polish and move to the normal oxide polishes for that high gloss finish.
  • In polishing of all lapidary materials each one reacts different, the pressure applied, polish media, heat, the material being polished and other factors all take part in a good high polish.
  • Our experience working with pumice powder has been very rewarding on materials where the oxide polishes just polish the flat spots and shine the orange peel.
  • 4-ounce bag (net) Grade FFFF uniformly ground off-white color powder.
  • Always test on a test piece of material.
  • Always keep out of reach of children and Do Not Consume
  • Pumice is nonstaining when used with water or vegetable glycerin oil.
